The country’s first multi-million peso LGU-initiated pyrolysis machine that will convert garbage residuals into useful construction materials was inaugurated Thursday at the Material Recovery Facility MRF compound of the city in Camanjac.

This is another P21-Million project initiated by purely city-generated revenues out of the taxes paid by the people to the City government.

First were two P50-Million concrete bridges that now links the old and the new Dumaguete which is separated by the Banica River.

Manager of the  MRF facility of the city Letty Duran said:

A PYROLISIS Machine converts garbage residuals, those basic elements of crushed garbage from the city’s daily P10-ton waste into useful construction materiasls such as six-inch h ollow blocks and gravel for construction.

MRF construction engineer Mark Ardona said:

First the initial output products of the pyrolysis machine will be used for the city’s construction projects, a big savings for the people because the City will no longer but it from construction firms.

City Mayor Felipe Remollo has made it his obsession to fixup the mess created by the old garbage dumpsite in that for the first time in 70 years, the City will now be self-sufficient in garbage disposal. This even if a sanitary landfill will now be a supplementary matter since the MRF is now able to process garbage residuals which will be used for many recycled products.

Witnessing the historic launching of the muti million pesos pyrolysis machine were Environmental Management Bureau EMB chief of DENR Engr William Cunado; and regional  DENR executive director Engr Paquito Melicor Jr.

They said that Dumaguete City made a wise investment of the future because the  saying becomes true when they say: “there is gold in the garbage pit.”

They complimented the City in saying that while the initial investment is big, the benefits it will bring the community’s environmental concern will be much multiplied to benefirt the people themselves.
