Tire Stewardship B.C. is partnering with Kal Tire in Prince George to a scrap tire collection event on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Kal Tire location at 750 Boundary Rd.

“The residents of Prince George, and the surrounding areas, are invited to stop by Kal Tire and drop off their scrap tires. We will also have TSBC and Western Rubber representatives on-site to answer any used tire related questions,” said Rosemary Sutton, executive director of Tire Stewardship B.C. “These collection events are an effective and efficient way for community residents to return their scrap tires conveniently and at no charge. They also present a great opportunity to educate British Columbians on the many products that scrap tires are recycled into, such playground safety surfacing, recreational flooring, water parks, animal mats, garden mulch and truck bed liners. Over the years TSBC has provided several grants to organizations in Prince George who have used recycled B.C. tires in an environmentally friendly manner for a variety of projects. For example, TSBC  provided the City of Prince George with a $20,000 grant to go towards 4,025 sq. ft. of new dressing room floors at the CN Centre, made from 575 scrap tires.”

TSBC currently has 22 Return to Retailer (R2R) locations in Prince George.

Since 1991, more than 100 million tires have been recycled in B.C., and TSBC’s scrap tire recycling program is one of the most successful in North America and the oldest recycling program in Canada. Every year in B.C., more than five million scrap car tires are recycled into new products.
