The Skagit County transfer station on Ovenell Road west of Burlington reopened to self-haulers Wednesday morning after being closed for about five days because of a broken piece of equipment, according to a news release from Skagit County.

The station closed to self-haulers on Aug. 11 because a piece of equipment broke at the rail spur operated by Republic, the county’s disposal contractor.

“Without that equipment, we were unable to load or unload containers onto rail cars. With our current garbage pile-up, we simply ran out of room,” county Solid Waste Division Manager Margo Gillaspy said in the release.

The site did manage to remain open to commercial haulers, recycling, appliance drop-off and the disposal of household hazardous waste during this time.

Normal hours of operation for garbage, recycling and appliance drop-off is 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Sunday.

The Household Hazardous Waste Facility is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Clear Lake Compactor Site and the Sauk Transfer Site remain open for normal operations. Both sites accept household garbage only.
