Staffan Kullberg to support commercialisation of company’s pyrolysis technology

Stockholm - Scandinavian Enviro Systems AB (Enviro) has named a new finance chief and launched a management reshuffle as it prepares to commericialise its end-of-life tire (ELT) recycling technology.

The Swedish waste tire pyrolysis company has appointed Staffan Kullberg as new CFO, to report directly to chief executive Thomas Sorensson.

The current CFO Urban Folcker will assume responsibility for expanding the company’s capacity in business control, said Enviro in a 6 Sept statement.

Kullberg, who has previously held a number of senior positions in the Volvo Group, will take up his new position with immediate effect and will help strengthen the finance department amid ongoing commercialisaiton plans, the company said.

“Enviro is on the threshold of a very exciting but also demanding period,” said CEO Sorensson.

“We are actively preparing the establishment of our first full-scale recycling facility in parallel with addressing a sharp increase in interest from customers for both recovered carbon black and oil,” he added.

As previously announced, Enviro plans to establish a recycling plant for ELTs in Uddevalla, Sweden.

The plant will have the capacity to process up to 60 kilotonnes per annum (ktpa) of waste tires, which according to Enviro covers over 60% of Sweden’s total annual volume of ELTs.

Enviro, however, has not finalised the decision to establish the new plant, stating that it would depend on several factors, such as securing access to ELTs and agreements covering deliveries of recovered materials.

If finalised, the company expects the new facility to be completed during the fourth quarter of 2023.

The project will be in addition to Enviro’s existing plant in Åsensbruk, Mellerud, which currently recycles 15ktpa of waste tires.

The move is part of Enviro's 'aggressive expansion plan' which was announced on 20 May.

As part of the plan, the Swedish recycler aims to establish up to four new facilities per year to ultimately build 30 plants by 2030. West Sweden and Central Europe have been identified as initial priority markets.

Enviro has developed a patented technology to recover carbon black, oil and steel from end-of-life vehicle tires.
